Prerequisites

The requirements for participating in this course is basic knowledge in mechanical drawing techniques.

Main purpose

The main purpose of the course is to provide the student with the knowledge and methods within the fields of 3D CAD drawing.

Knowledge

The student will acquire knowledge and become confident with the use of the software Autodesk Inventor on a basic level sufficient enough to work with engineering design and documentation.

* User interface and file structure
* Sketching, constraining and dimensioning
* Creating and editing sketched features
* Creating placed features
* Creating and editing drawing views
* Creating and documenting assemblies
* Advanced part modelling techniques

Skills

Following completion of the course the student has skills in:

* Using a popular 3D CAD program
* Part modeling
* Assembly modeling
* Applying standard components from a content library
* Creating drawing documentation of parts and assemblies in traditional 2D drawings

Competences

Upon completing the course, the student will have gained competences the use of a 3D CAD program and use suitable graphical drawing techniques when documenting a machine design. The student will gain knowledge in the use of Autodesk Inventor, sufficient to work with basic engineering design and documentation.

Topics

 

Teaching methods and study activities

Class room teaching of course topics combined with practice exercises.
The student is expected to make practice exercises and homework between lessons.

3 lessons per week for 14 weeks and the expected workload for students is 138 hours.
The student is required to install a free Inventor software on the student’s own Windows laptop.

The final course assignment is done in groups and covers all the course topics.
