Simulation of Injection Moulding of Thermoplastics
Code
ME-SIT1
Version
1.0
Offered by
Mechanical Engineering
ECTS
5
Prerequisites
The student must have passed the course ME-TMT1
Main purpose
The main purpose of the course is to give the student a basic understanding of the possibilities within mould flow simulations of thermoplastic polymers for injection moulding.
Mould flow simulations help designers optimise the design of parts and moulds for injection moulding. The simulations provide information about mould filling, packing, cooling, warpage, flow rate, material viscosity etc.
Knowledge
Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- Explain the use of Moldex3D in order to design proper parts and moulds for injection moulding.
- Explain in which way the model geometry influences the injection moulding process.
- Outline which parameters can be adjusted for an optimal injection moulding.
- Indicate the necessary data for the injection moulding.
Skills
Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- Use Moldex3D for parts and moulds analysis, for optimisation of parts and injection moulding process.
Competences
Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- Optimise plastic part and mould design by using advanced injection-moulding simulation.
